Workshops and Lectures

I love to visit guilds to talk about and show my work or to teach you something new. My fees vary on the program, the location, the date, and whether they are combined with other events. Contact me to learn more or to book me.

Lectures

Lectures are approximately 60-90 minutes in length and can be delivered in person or via Zoom.
  • Quilt Your Story. This is my most popular program, in which I discuss various ways to create a memory quilt. Techniques discussed include using clothing, printing on fabric, creating a quilt from photographs, making autograph quilts, and incorporating “unusual” items. Best practices will be shared. Include trunk show of quilts demonstrating techniques discussed.
  • Create and Sell Your Own Patterns. In this presentation, I talk about how to draft and publish your unique patterns. I will discuss the pros and cons of self-publishing vs. using a distributor.
  • Trunk Show. I have made hundreds of quilts in many styles. In my trunk show, I share my quilting journey–from making my first quilt (a queen-sized triple Irish chain!) to winning awards in shows to teaching quilting to pattern testing for others to publishing my own patterns.
  • Enhancing Your Creativity. This lecture is about why and how we are creative and includes tips and hands-on for enhancing your own creativtiy.

Workshops

  • Make a T-Shirt Quilt. I have made dozens of t-shirt quilts. I offer workshops in both planning a t-shirt quilt and actually making one. T-shirt quilt classes are fun and always popular! This is a full-day class.

  • Quilt Your Story. I provide a hands-on workshop where I work one-on-one with students to help them create a unique memory quilt. (This workshop is best offered after the corresponding lecture and trunk show.) This is a full-day class.

Fat Quarter Twist is my most popular pattern. It uses 8 coordinating fat quarters, making it a great prospect for a shop kit. It’s an easy technique that enables you to make the half square triangles for the border as you are making the body. This is a full-day class. A full printed pattern is included.

There’s More Than One Way to Bind a Quilt is a 2-hour hands-on workshop teching the basics of making and applying binding, as well as how to do a two-color binding, a self binding, a pillow case binding, and a flange binding.

Through Thick or Thin is a quick pattern that creates a wonderful quilt! The trick to making this quilt stunning is to choose three values of fabrics. This is a full-day class. A full printed pattern is included.

Free Motion Quilting is a 3-hour class. The first hour is verbal instruction and practice on paper, then the remaining class is hands-on sewing. This is a beginner-level class designed for students with little to no experience free motion quilting on their domestic machine.

Mystery Quilt is a full-day class in which students are given a supply list and tips for choosing fabrics in advance, and then are given “clues” throughout the day (in the form of instructions to make specific units) with a reveal of the entire quilt at the end of the day. A full printed pattern is included.
